After cutting the hair of Thor's wife, Sif, the trickster Loki is caught and promises to fix the situation. He goes to the dwarves to have fine gold spun and magic weaved so that when placed upon her head it would take root and grow. In addition they made the spear for Odin, Gungnir, which never misses; a boat for Freyr called Skidbladnir that can be be folded and put into a pocket; a gold arm-ring named Draupnir that drips nine times its weight in gold every ninth night; a golden boar named Gullinbursti that can charge over the sky water and land and who's bristles glow with light in the dark; and Thor's Mjollnir hammer that when thrown makes lightning and returns to him in a thunder clap and whose only imperfection is a slightly short handle.
