Today I woke with no umph. A migraine had knocked me out at the end of work yesterday, and the pills put me to bed before the kids were down. My wife calls it a migraine hangover. I thought about how comical it was that Monday was perfect, yesterday I was met with challenges, but I was able to power through and keep my food logging streak despite setbacks, and today was looking like it wasn’t going to get off the ground.

I took charge, I celebrated the win of getting up with my wife, having coffee before the kids were up, forcing myself to get a few slow steps on the treadmill. I shared my situation with my best friend via text, I felt the steps get easier, the heat start to rise, my sweatshirt came off, I jogged, the music started to flow, my feet started to run, and my last mile was under 8 minutes. On a day when I thought I was surely going to fail, I had already broken 10k steps before the day began.

It’s about the right moment is today’s passage from The Daily Dad. “…as with gardening, there is a time and a season for certain things to take root, and until you get there, the thing you’ll need most is patience.”

Today I’m already seeing some returns, I’m down about 4 pounds from my last weigh in. Walking leads to jogging that turns to running. If I can get forward motion, my momentum will carry me.
