How is it possible…
…that after all I’ve gone through, some mornings of a light workout that’s less than 20 minutes can feel harder than those at high intensity for an hour or more? This weekend our house has still been plagued by some kind of bug. My daughter for the last few days has been sleeping almost non-stop and couldn’t get out of bed. I too was down and out yesterday with a migraine after an easy morning workout. Today it took everything to drag myself upright and start logging reps.
Next weekend is the Filthy Fifty where I’ll take my gravel bike out to Lanesborough for some beautiful fall foliage. I’ve got to feel better for me to be able to go, and that means this week I have to thread the needle between activity while prioritizing sleep and nutrition to get better. I continue to use the steroidal inhaler to try to keep the junk out of my lungs.
In the Daily Dad, we explore the Lewis’s equation B=f(P,E) such that Behavior (B) is a function of a person (P) and their environment (E). For establishing a habit of reading, we bought lovesac bean bag chairs and made cozy corners in our kids rooms with bookshelves and access to fun books with rewards for each book complete. For exercise, I have no excuses as I have everything I could need in the third stall of my heated garage with all of the conveniences to make it as comfortable as possible. One part I have felt is the isolation of years of doing this solo, so I made a space for my wife who proclaimed she’d never be an athlete. I bought the equipment, the gear, and set her up so we can do it together. Today when my eyes didn’t want to focus and my body wanted to just close my eyes, she was the one who helped to pop out of bed before 5am despite probably being more tired than me. We surround ourselves with people who make the hard choices of delayed gratification which drive sustainable progress. My best friend has locked in, and we text in the morning for accountability. Each day is a new day, and that little drip of encouragement breeds hope that these tiny drips of investment will compound given some willful consistency.
Looking ahead, it’s 3 days until the Xtri ballot opens this week, so I’m trying to harness that inner fire as it flickers in and out.
Jeg har hatt lyst til å komme med i Xtri helt siden jeg ga fra meg sjansen i 2007. Nå har jeg studert norsk de siste tre årene.
