Disclaimer: These are the unfiltered ramblings of a coach who is also a young father retracing the steps of his youth to conquer another full Ironman triathlon a decade after his first.
So it's been a while since my last post, and even though I don't believe in excuses, here are mine:
- Took on a new web-design project: www.callanderfarms.com
- Hosted first full family Thanksgiving in our home (entertaining 9 guests)
- It was a recovery week anyway, right?
- Flat Tire - Need to repair...
- Who can say no to Pumpkin and Pecan pie??
I wanted to blog earlier about planning for the holidays, but with the new web-design project that came up, I didn't get to it. That doesn't mean that I didn't plan for the holidays. It is so important to think about one's limits before the big meal, and remember not to gorge oneself. Even though I did fairly good, I still gained a couple extra pounds, but what mattered most to me this Thanksgiving was being in the moment with my family who had taken the time to fly from all over the nation to stay with us. We laughed, watched movies, went ice-skating, and ate a beautiful meal together, and I wouldn't have it any other way. It goes by in a blink of an eye, and here it is, before the beginning of a new week and at the end of November. Now is the time to re-affirm goals, and get set up to tackle those new years resolutions with confidence.
After talking with a friend, I tentatively have a mid-April Half-Marathon trail race in Colorado scheduled, which will be a nice C-race if I pull the trigger on doing the Wisconsin Ironman. I'm getting close to pulling the trigger, but after taking a week off, I want to make sure that I can continue the moment I've built and start seeing some higher intensity in the coming weeks. I'm so surprised that Wisconsin hasn't filled up yet, but I'll take a couple more weeks before I confirm. For December, I'm going to start being more diligent about diet, and do a better job of counting calories. I'm not going all-out yet, but I want to be more aware. I'm still within the first two months of building my activity habit getting up in the mornings, and want to make sure I'm solid there first as my foundation before I put too much of a mental burden on.
I've been wishing I had power data for my spins so that I could read a TSS score on TrainingPeaks, and am looking at my options. So far it looks like either a smart trainer or a power meter for on the bike. Both are way more that I'd like to spend. Maybe now is a good time to start scouting for sponsors...
