New Commitments

This last year has been so much harder than I ever could have imagined adapting to being a father. My intension has been there to transform this dad-bod back into peak shape, but I simply haven't committed 100%. I've been torn in a million directions, and today is the day I'm putting my priorities back in line. I am reaffirming my commitment to taking care of myself, so that I can best take care of my family. I need to lose about 45 pounds within the next year, and to motivate myself, I'm setting my sites to the extreme: the Norseman Extreme Triathlon. This is an Ironman distance triathlon in the most rugged and brutal terrain in the world. I've priced it out, and am aiming to race in August of 2018 or 2019 (assuming I get drawn in the lottery). Follow me as I re-commit myself to re-defining the dad-bod.

Getting Rid of Distractions

Today I moved or deleted all of the apps that I spend the most time on on my phone, and deleted the bookmarks on my computer to keep me focused on just a few items:

  • Logging Food through My Fitness Pal
  • Logging stats with Garmin/Strava/Training Peaks
  • Blogging about the journey

There isn't enough time in the day for anything else at this point. Any extra time will be well spent with my family.

Black Shirt

The ultimate honor is to earn a black shirt and finish at the top of the mountain. The first 160 of 250 runners earn this honor, and I aim to be among them. The cutoff time is 15 hours 30 min to get to ascend the mountain, so that's a general time to beat. There is 4,000 feet of elevation, climbing on the bike, so my legs will have to be tough. The biggest first step is establishing the habit. Every day I'll log a workout for the next two months. Help me get there by cheering me on!
